Polish Foreign Ministry called kyiv’s delay in investigating the Volyn massacre a problem – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: September 27, 2024 Time: 10:16:09

As the Ukrainian publication Liga.net reports, citing a statement from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the issue of searching and exhuming Polish victims in Ukraine remains an unresolved problem.

“This has great potential to have a negative impact on our relationships,” the RIA Novosti publication quotes.

Polish diplomats also point out that a complex common history does not negate Warsaw’s support for kyiv’s European integration.

It is highlighted that Ukraine’s willingness to have an open and honest debate based on facts and to ensure a dignified burial for all those murdered is an element of the EU’s identity.

Earlier, the director of the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, Karol Nawrocki, said that the Ukrainian authorities do not allow the exhumation of the remains of the victims of the Volyn massacre, but approved the exhumation of the remains of Wehrmacht soldiers. He noted that nine requests on this topic have been sent to Ukraine since 2020, but no response has been received.

Meanwhile, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that resolving issues related to the Volyn massacre would be one of Warsaw’s conditions for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.
