North Korea reports cases of ‘unknown fever’

More than 296,000 “unknown fever” cases reported in DPRK per day

More than 296,000 new patients with “unknown fever” were identified in the DPRK per day, writes RIA Novosti with reference to the North Korean Central Telegraph Agency.

The patients had a high temperature. During the day, 15 people died. More than 820,000 have fallen ill during the entire time. Among them, 496,000 patients have recovered and more than 324,000 are still being treated. The total number of deaths is 42 people, doctors reported.

The agency writes that at least one of the deceased was found to have a strain of the omicron coronavirus (BA.2, omicron stealth).

On May 12, a case of coronavirus infection was first detected in North Korea. For this reason, the maximum state of emergency was declared in the state.

North Korea is facing the “greatest shock” in North Korea’s history from the spread of COVID-19, leader Kim Jong-un has said. He called the disease “the great scare since the founding of the Republic.”
