The tragedy was reported in the Russian Diving Federation.
“On Thursday evening we learned the tragic news that Leyla Salyamova is no longer with us. She had an accident – she was driving a car in Karelia,” the organization’s press service told Match TV.
The accident occurred at the 163rd kilometer of the Sortavala highway in the Lakhdenpokh region: Mitsubishi Lancer and Volkswagen Tiguan cars collided. As a result, the driver and passenger of the Mitsubishi were killed.
Salyamova, 23, became the first Russian diver to qualify for the World Championships.
