Interestingly, the French idiom “faire les 400 coups”, which gave the film its title, means “to behave on the verge of correctness” and often refers to child vandalism. According to the plot, Antoine, a difficult 12-year-old teenager, receiving no attention or support from his mother or his father, starts skipping school with his friends and runs away from home.
