At the same time, due to the introduction of a new procedure for calculating payments for the import of cars subject to customs clearance in the EAEU countries, there will be a progressive increase in the price of such cars. Now a model that has passed customs in Kyrgyzstan costs about 30% less than the one sold by an official dealer. The price increase will affect this import segment, which accounts for 12% to 15% of cars supplied to Russia.
Previously, the president of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD), Alexey Podshchekoldin, stated that the Russian automobile market is made up of 50% models of Chinese brands. According to him, an excess supply of cars on the market will lead to a “discount war” and the bankruptcy of dealers.
There are currently about 60 Chinese brands represented in Russia. If the plans of the Chinese brands are not adjusted, in 2024 about 500 thousand cars will be “surplus” on the market (taking into account ROAD’s optimistic scenario).
In 2023, Chinese companies opened 2,107 distribution centers in Russia. As Podshchekoldin notes, some closed data centers have resumed work with Chinese brands.
