In the summer of 2022, the lead singer of the group “Tender May”, Yuri Shatunov, passed away. He would have turned 51 on September 6. For the artist’s birthday, the MUZ-TV channel prepared a two-part documentary “The Secret Covered by May. The Life and Death of Yura Shatunov.” The premiere will take place on September 7 at 16:00.
The authors will tell the story of how they wrote immortal hits and try to find out who benefited from the artist’s death. The channel’s team relies not only on facts, but also on the opinions of show business stars. The KP.RU website shares exclusive details and quotes from celebrities from the upcoming documentary.
Producer Joseph Prigozhin was adamant about who should have the rights to the artist’s hits: the group’s producer Andrei Razin or the family of the deceased artist.
“Greed, avarice, arrogance, filth,” Prigogine was indignant. There is no man! I believe that all the creativity created by Yuri Shatunov should belong to his children and his family.
Composer Bari Alibasov completely cursed Razin:
– Well, Razin, in my opinion, is a complete idiot. He will not win anything, Razin. Nothing. If he wins, the Russian law will be absolutely insane.
In 1991, at the height of their fame, the group’s producer announced the closure of the project, saying that the boys needed to get an education and not go on stage until old age:
“I told all the kids: “Everyone goes to college, everyone studies, everyone finds themselves in a profession, in life.”
However, Shatunov claimed in an interview that Razin was deceiving everyone and almost blackmailing him. After a while, the artist admitted that in fact his producer was holding him hostage.
“I couldn’t leave because I was a state child and I didn’t have a passport yet,” Shatunov said. “I was forced to stay with him. He comes up with all sorts of plans to keep me with him.”
Joseph Prigozhin told reporters that the producer earned an unprecedented amount of money from Shatunov.
“Razin’s cabinets were filled with a huge amount of money,” Prigozhin recalls. “I had the feeling that I had arrived in a safe, not an apartment.”
After leaving the group, Shatunov began a solo career, but his new work did not find a response in the hearts of listeners, so the singer decided to move to Germany and temporarily leave music.
Abroad, the singer began a new life: he trained as a sound engineer and became interested in arrangements. After some time, Shatunov returned to Russia and tried to resume his career. Next to the artist was no longer Andrei Razin, but concert director Arkady Kudryashov.
“The courts simply killed him; only one person is to blame for all this – Andrei Aleksandrovich Razin,” Kudryashov said.
The singer and soloist of “Tender May” Natalya Grozovskaya even believes that the cause of the legendary artist’s death is murder:
– I think this is murder. I don’t want to name anyone now. The investigation will solve it.
The first part of the documentary investigation by MUZ-TV channel, the film “The Secret Covered by May. The Life and Death of Yura Shatunov” will be shown on September 7 at 4:00 p.m., and the second part a week later, on September 14 at the same time.
