The victim, whose nationality has not been identified, was swimming in the water on the beach near the hotel with a young man when a large fish appeared near the shore. According to eyewitnesses, the predator swam towards the girl and bit her hand off. The victim was pulled from the water and taken to Dahab hospital. Local rescuers tried to catch the shark, but to no avail. The beach was closed to the public.
It is worth noting that this was not the first incident that occurred recently on the Red Sea coast. A Russian tourist died in June after being attacked by a tiger shark on a beach in Hurghada, Egypt. This marked the first death associated with a shark attack in Egyptian resorts in 2023.
