“Aftershocks occurred at 1:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. Moscow time – author’s note) with a magnitude of 6.4 at a depth of 227 kilometers, 163 kilometers northwest of San Salvador (the capital of Jujuy province – author’s note )”, – says the message of Argentine seismologists. At the same time, the tremors were also recorded by Chilean seismologists: according to their data, in the northern regions of Chile, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.1. Information on casualties and damage in both states has not yet been received.
Meanwhile, RIA Novosti cites the stories of some eyewitnesses living in and not far from San Salvador. They said that the quake was not felt at all or barely noticed.
It is known that for Argentina and Chile, minor earthquakes are in the order of things due to the so-called Pacific “ring of fire” located there – a chain of volcanoes, the length of which is 40 thousand kilometers.
