But still, intelligence has always been Trubnikov’s main and favorite field of activity. He was a specialist in India, Bangladesh, in the Asian region, where he worked for many years. He was also noted at the Center as a capable young intelligence officer, where, after long trips abroad, he held the most responsible positions in the main directorates. In January 1992, Vyacheslav Trubnikov was appointed as the first deputy director of the Foreign Intelligence Service. He was not only friends with the first director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Academician Yevgeny Maksimovich Primakov, but they were faithful like-minded people. And before leaving for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the post of minister, Primakov recommended Trubnikov in his place. This did not coincide with the intentions of the first president of Russia, Boris Nikolaevich Yeltsin. But the academician managed to convince him that there could be no better candidate than the professional Trubnikov. And from January 1996 to May 2000, Trubnikov headed the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation. He was awarded the title of Hero of Russia, he became a general of the army. They were very difficult years. Vyacheslav Ivanovich sometimes had to defend firm intelligence positions in disputes with people who held far from patriotic views.

Vyacheslav Ivanovich impressed me with his calmness and endurance. Always correct, he knew how to listen and listen to the interlocutor. He was sick, but he was not discouraged. A man of high culture and extraordinary erudition, he sometimes surprised me with the breadth of knowledge in the most diverse areas, far from intelligence. It seemed that by talking to him, you yourself gain knowledge.

On Monday, June 19, a memorial plaque dedicated to Trubnikov was unveiled on the facade of the building of the National Research Institute for the Development of Communications on quiet Korobeinikov Street in Moscow. It was created by the sculptor A. Zabaluev and the architect I. Voznesensky.

The memorial plaque was opened by the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergey Naryshkin, wife and daughter of Vyacheslav Ivanovich Trubnikov.
