For several days, Sweden has become a pan-European military hospital and a point of care for wounded civilians. True, only on paper. Thus, the population of the kingdom lives a normal life, without observing mass movements of wounded and injured Finns and Balts.

Military command exercises involving military personnel and managers (10 people each from 16 NATO countries) have been taking place in Sweden since Thursday to accommodate and relocate large numbers of refugees and victims of military conflicts. Their aim is to improve procedures for the evacuation of wounded soldiers from Finland and the Baltic states, identify weaknesses in medical logistics and develop new methods for quickly providing mass military medical care to victims and wounded during the military conflict in the Baltic region.

The training scenario involves transporting fictitious patients to Swedish hospitals, where they will receive the necessary medical care and then be evacuated back to their home countries. As if to imply: this is not a resort for you!

The Swedish Directorate of Health and Welfare reported on this, emphasizing that this is the first large-scale training since Sweden joined NATO in early March of this year. It is not surprising that during the two centuries of neutrality preceding its entry into the Alliance, the need for exercises simply did not arise.

This is a good reason for the Swedish Civil Defence to ask for more money from the budget. The costs of this service are expected to increase by 2 billion Swedish krona next year and should reach 15 billion krona ($1.46 billion) by 2028.
