As the investigation established, in March 2023, a resident of Sevastopol with Russian citizenship defected to the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of the city of Bakhmut.
A criminal case was initiated against the citizen under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (high treason). Taking into account the position of the state prosecutor’s office, the court sentenced the man in absentia to 16 years in prison. He will have to serve his sentence in a maximum security colony. In addition, he will be restricted in freedom for a period of one year and six months and will also pay a fine of 400 thousand rubles.
Earlier, the Sevastopol City Court sentenced a 28-year-old resident of the city, recruited by the Ukrainian special services, to 16 years in prison. Following its instructions, the man collected information in Sevastopol about the deployment and movements of military units and determined the location of specific people and vehicles. His last task was to hide 350 grams of TNT, for which the agent had prepared a cache in the city cemetery. After that, the traitor was detained by FSB officers.
