This is one of the first performances in Russia dedicated to the events of a special military operation. Ragim Musayev’s play is among the top ten winners of the International Drama Competition organized by the Guild of Russian Playwrights.
Who is an axolotl? It is a “water dragon,” a water-dwelling larva of some salamander species that resembles a smiling lizard with three pairs of protruding gills. And this makes it seem like it’s always positive. The unique thing about the axolotl is that it can reproduce without becoming an adult. The axolotl is generally unwilling to become an adult unless a drought occurs and its pond dries up. If nothing threatens the comfort of the axolotl, it will remain a larva.
In the new performance of the Tula drama, the axolotl serves as a symbol of some children’s representatives of the 30-year-old generation. These are adult children, for whom the main thing is that their comfortable existence is not disturbed.
Another part of the same generation is capable of any sacrifice. There is a true story when a girl who saw off her husband in the Northern Military District wove a winter camouflage net out of her wedding dress. The imagination of the authors of the work intricately combined modern history, the image of a mysterious animal and a popular feat. The work is called: Studies from the time of the Northern Military District.
As Alexey Emelyanov, deputy general director of the Tula Academic Drama Theater, told RG, the play “Wedding Dress for an Axolotl” was written specifically for the Tula Drama Theater. Its author, Ragim Musaev, is originally from the Tula region and has produced more than 80 productions in theaters in Russia, LPR, DPR, Belarus and Kazakhstan. The Tula Academic Drama Theater successfully presents a series of historical and patriotic performances for the whole family, “The Life of the Remarkable Tula People”, based on his works.
By the way, the work “Wedding dress for an axolotl” entered the shortlist of winners of the International Contest of Historical and Patriotic Works “With Love for the Homeland.”
