The civil servants’ strike will disrupt work on various parts of the UK public sector, including driving tests, passport applications and social benefits. Unions representing other workers later chose the same day for their own industrial action.
Nurses and ambulance workers will go on strike on February 6. For the first time, the NHS will be faced with the simultaneous absence of both groups of staff from the workplace. It is observed that the unions are increasingly coordinating their actions.
The Office for National Statistics estimated that 467,000 work days were lost due to strikes in November, the highest number in a decade.
