Academician Gennady Krasnikov: Why do we need cooperation between the Russian Academy of Sciences and industrial centers? – Rossiyskaya Gazeta

Date: October 2, 2022 Time: 19:44:18

Gennady Krasnikov: Today, more than ever, synergy is important: cooperation between scientists and between technicians who can do serious things. And in that synergy it is very important to find answers, solutions to the problems that the country faces.

We were often carried away by interaction with foreign companies, foreign scientists, and sometimes we did not know what the people next to us were doing, what opportunities they had. Therefore, an open exchange of views, a review of various areas, including the capabilities of the scientific organizations of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and VNIITF, in my opinion, is productive and extremely relevant. I’m sure there is potential here that will be in demand.

How exactly can specialists from the industry’s nuclear center help solve global technological problems?

Gennady Krasnikov: The development of micro, nanoelectronics and quantum technologies is such a broad direction in which solid-state physics dominates and is used in all its aspects. We are talking about high-purity materials, typical of the nuclear industry. Here are several physical facilities that are widely used in the nuclear industry: accelerators, plasma processes, magnetron processes, epitaxial… There are many areas where nuclear scientists have high equipment proficiency…

It is known about supercomputers in nuclear centers. Do you consider it necessary to develop another research base here?

Gennady Krasnikov: We must strive to create these new conditions for leading specialists to work in different parts of our country. Collecting everything and everyone in Moscow is unreasonable and, in fact, impossible. On the contrary, it is necessary to provide conditions for our specialists in the regions to conduct a wide range of research. So that a novice or already established scientist is not obsessed with one thing and very narrow. So that he is not tied to a single, albeit important, large research facility. Science is an interesting and multifaceted thing. And the possibilities of microelectronics allow a wide range of research.

You are in Snezhinsk for the first time. What do you think about leaving?

Gennady Krasnikov: With the idea that I will definitely come here. I want our specialists to cooperate with the specialists of VNIITF and the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, to find points of interaction, and I would love to find resources for this work…

You have mentioned two big programs for which public funding is open: 96 billion rubles for the next five years and 151 billion until 2030. Should this inspire your potential partners in Snezhinsk?

Gennady Krasnikov: In fact, we have quite a few sources of funding. And these are not just the federal programs that I mentioned, which will go through the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to develop electronics. We also have other development institutions where funding can come from. There is the Advanced Research Foundation, there is the Russian Science Foundation, there is the Ministry of Digital Development, the Ministry of Education and Science, there is not only Rosatom, but also Roscosmos, Rostec … So, I’m ready, together. with the leadership of VNIITF, together with academician Rykovanov, to seek funding.
