AEB: new car sales in Russia grew by 112% KXan 36 Daily News

Date: February 24, 2024 Time: 09:07:00

AvtoVAZ remains the leader: in May, the brand’s dealers sold 23,904 new cars – 298% or four times more than a year ago. The second place, three times behind the first, was taken by the Chinese Haval, whose cars sold 7576 copies (+749%). Geely ranked third, whose sales volume in the last month of spring amounted to 7096 vehicles (+682%).

If we talk about models, then most often in May the Russians bought Lada Granta. 17,041 cars of this model were sold (sales increased 7.4 times).

In second place last month was the Lada Niva model. In the last month, 6,376 thousand cars were sold, 5.8 times more than the previous year. In third place is Haval Jolion – 3,965 thousand (an increase of 9.3 times).

As for the first five months of 2023, 228,500 new cars were presented in the country during this time, 26% less than in 2022. Then, in the Russian Federation, from January to May, 308,677 cars were purchased.

Let’s remember that the AEB calculates based on car shipments to dealers, so its data differs from Avtostat, which calculates based on the initial registration with the traffic police.

Alexei Makarov, Director of Development and Corporate Management of Nizhegorodets, told RG that today all dealers have small car warehouses, because most dealers provide cars to dealers on a prepaid basis. Which, by the way, is a powerful impediment to the growth of the Russian car market, because now dealers cannot afford large stocks, and the turnaround time for cars has been reduced by several times compared to previous years.
