Thanks to the success of the comedy Cheburashka, which became the highest-grossing film at the Russian box office, interest in Eduard Uspensky’s book Crocodile Gena and His Friends, the first in a series, has grown. RBC writes about it.
According to an Ozon market representative, in January 2023, demand for the book increased by 47%. LitRe also sees double sales, and Read the City network said the figure was up 12% on the same period last year.
In addition, the popularity of products related to Cheburashka has increased. Wildberries notes that in the period from January 1 to January 9, 2023, Cheburashka-shaped plush toys began to be purchased 147% more frequently and puzzles 96% more. At Ozon, the classic soft toys turned out to be the most requested: 2.3 times more were requested than last year.
