If you are a beneficiary of the Minimum Living Income (IMV), it is crucial that you know that there are other subsidies that are incompatible with this aid from the Government of Spain. Knowing this information first-hand will avoid unpleasant surprises when managing your personal finances.
Aid incompatible with receiving the Minimum Living Income
The IMV is one of the main social benefits of the State whose purpose is to help people with less economic income. Thus, they are protected from poverty and social exclusion. However, it is not possible to collect it at the same time as the rest of the subsidies offered by Social Security.

Pension assistance
In this case, there is incompatibility with financial aid from the State. The condition of beneficiary of the IMV prevents receiving welfare pensions from January 1, 2023. From that date, those that continue to be received will be extinguished when their beneficiaries are recognized. Its termination will take effect on the same day that the IMV begins to be collected.
Widow’s pension, permanent disability or retirement
Finally, and as an extension of the above, people who collect non-contributory pensions in both their aspects, retirement or disability, will not be able to benefit from the Minimum Living Income either.
Likewise, it should be added that something similar occurs in cases of widowhood. For practical purposes, it must be remembered that the revaluation of the minimum pension upon becoming widowed has increased in January 2024 in accordance with the CPI. Contributory pensions have increased by 3.8% and non-contributory pensions by 6.9%, a percentage that is equal to retirement with dependent children.
