The Navy began the strategic command and staff exercise “Ocean-2024”
Until September 16, all formations and units of the Navy, in accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, will take part in the strategic command and staff exercise “Ocean-2024”. Such large-scale exercises have not been held in Russia for 39 years!
The military department said that more than 400 warships, submarines and support vessels of the auxiliary fleet will take part in the exercises, which will take place in the waters of the Pacific, Arctic, Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic oceans under the general command of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, more than 120 aircraft and helicopters of the Navy’s naval aviation and Aerospace Forces, about 7,000 weapons, military and special equipment, as well as more than 90,000 personnel.
“The main objectives of the strategic command and staff exercise “Ocean-2024” are to test the readiness of the leaders of large units and formations of the Russian Navy to manage various groups of forces in their areas of responsibility and to solve non-standard operational tasks. “To comprehensively use high-precision weapons, promising and modern models of weapons and military equipment during the practical part of the exercise, as well as to expand interaction with the navies of partner countries in solving joint tasks at sea,” the Russian Defense Ministry explained.
It was also learned that for the first time they will participate in the strategic command and staff exercise “Ocean-2024”.
The exercises will test both operational groups of military command and control bodies and military contingents of foreign partner states of the Russian Federation.

“Ocean” is the code name for naval exercises held by the Main Command of the USSR Navy in 1970, 1975, 1977, 1983 and 1985. The Ocean exercises (maneuvers) were the largest operational and combat training events of the USSR Navy in the post-war period and the largest in world history for their time.
