The upcoming reduction, the largest in the company’s history, is associated with an “unstable economic environment” as well as the fact that Amazon has seriously increased its staff during the coronavirus pandemic. In total, Amazon employs more than 1.5 million people.
“We deeply understand that the cuts will create hardship for individuals and we do not take this decision lightly or underestimate the effect it will have on the lives of affected workers,” Jesse wrote in the letter. He also assured that the company will provide severance pay and labor assistance.
It is reported that the statement about the cuts should not have been released now, but one of the company’s employees handed it over to reporters.
The first notices will go out to employees on January 18.
