Maurice Hastings, a 69-year-old resident of the United States of America, spent more than half of his life in prison. He was not guilty of anything.

Tragedy occurred in California in 1983: Roberta Weidermeier, who was shopping at a supermarket, was robbed, raped, and shot in the head.

Maurice Hastings was charged with the crime. And only based on the statement of the husband of the deceased, who said that he saw someone similar who was driving the car in which Roberta’s body was later found.

The trial lasted several years, more than 100 witnesses were interviewed, Maurice insisted on his innocence.

The prosecutor demanded the death penalty, the jury sentenced Maurice to life in prison.

In 2000, Hastings again requested a DNA test, but was denied again. The analysis was done only in 2021 and confirmed Maurice’s innocence.

The killer was found and convicted; he died in prison.
