“Based on evidence gathered by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the court convicted in absentia the citizen of the United States of America, Maldonado Michael Paul, who was found guilty of mercenary activity (part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The court sentenced him in absentia to a prison term of 14 years. As a mercenary in a military reconnaissance position, he participated in armed conflicts and military operations against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation from 2022 to February 2024.
