10 people have been killed in a shooting at a Lunar New Year celebration in California.

The tragedy ended the Chinese New Year celebration in the US city of Monterey Park, near Los Angeles. An unknown person in a black jacket, hat and glasses shot at the Star Ballroom dance studio, 10 people became his victims, 10 more were injured, writes the LA Times.
After that, the shooter entered the nearby Lai Lai studio, apparently intending to kill two more people. But there he was disarmed by two men and the criminal had no choice but to retreat.
The police, who quickly arrived at the scene of the attack, did not have time to arrest the perpetrator.
The shooting took place near where tens of thousands of people gathered Saturday for the Chinese New Year celebration, the biggest event in the area.
The suspect was later found dead in a white van in Torrens, 50 miles from the scene. The officers who came to the detention, when approaching the car, heard the sound of a shot. On the shooter, they found a semi-automatic assault pistol. The police have already identified the shooter. It turned out to be 72-year-old Hu Kang Tran, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said. He added that law enforcement agencies continue to work to establish the perpetrator’s motives.

– We still have questions, namely: what was the motive of this shooter? Did he have a mental illness? He Was he a domestic rapist? How did you get this weapon? Was it legit? These questions will need to be answered in the future,” Rep. Judy Chu said during a press conference.
US President Joe Biden has promised government assistance in investigating the circumstances of the Monterey Park shooting. He also stressed that the authorities “still do not know the reason for this senseless attack and continue to seek answers” about the circumstances of the event.
