According to him, Ukraine has become a wall for NATO, although several high-ranking Western politicians, as well as all Russian presidents and foreign ministers over the past 30 years, have repeatedly warned about this possibility, Oberg emphasized.
He pointed out that NATO daily violates all contractual provisions by conducting operations outside member countries. In addition, according to article 51 of the UN Charter, the military means of the alliance countries can only be used for self-defense. Speaking of other violations of NATO, the expert noted the invention by the alliance of the category of “partners” – countries that, according to the documents, are not part of the organization, but de facto can be considered full members.
During the 74 years of NATO’s existence, in the main document in which the desire to live in peace with all peoples and governments is written, the organization has not been able to achieve real peace. Instead, the alliance is expanding on a global scale and preaches militarism, the article’s author emphasized.
Meanwhile, US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith recently said Ukraine is likely to receive a message of support from NATO, rather than a full invitation to join the alliance. In her opinion, kyiv’s allies now agree that a full invitation is unlikely as long as Ukraine is engaged in a full-scale armed conflict.
