Actress Kate Mara, known for the television series “House of Cards,” and Andre Holland will star in the psychological thriller “The Dutchman.” The film is based on the work of Amiri Baraka. Deadline reports this.
Zazie Beetz and Stephen McKinley Henderson will also star in the film. The film adaptation will be directed by Andre Gaines. He co-wrote the script with Qasim Basir. Filming begins in New York on September 25.
The film tells about the meeting of a rich black man and a charming white woman on the subway. According to the plot, the characters will “wittily compete in a sexualized game of cat and mouse.” Their relationship will lead to a brutal end in the context of racial conflict in the United States.
Amiri Baraka’s work appeared at the height of the civil rights movement in the United States. It was first performed at the Cherry Lane Theater in New York in March 1964. In 1966, the play received a film adaptation; Shirley Knight and Al Freeman Jr. starred in the film.
Netflix previously shared a first look at the upcoming cartoon The Twits. The film is an animated adaptation of the children’s book by famous writer Roald Dahl. The premiere will be streaming in 2025. We talk in more detail here.
