Opera singer Anna Netrebko has filed a lawsuit against the New York Metropolitan Opera and the theater’s general manager, Peter Gelb, accusing them of defamation, breach of contract and other violations related to their withdrawal from the stage after the outbreak of hostilities. in Ukraine.
The lawsuit was recently filed in the Southern District of New York. The document says that the management of the Metropolitan Opera not only violated the contract, but also discriminated against the opera singer on a national level. Which is a felony in the West.
Anna Netrebko demands that she be reimbursed $ 360 thousand for canceled concerts: she lost her fees for concerts and rehearsals for this amount. In her opinion, after the start of the NWO, the Metropolitan Opera used her “as a scapegoat in her campaign to distance itself from Russia and support Ukraine”.
Even then, the singer claimed that it was wrong to force artists to express political views and condemn their homeland.
After that, other opera houses in the United States stopped working with her.
In addition, the singer demanded compensation for her indirect damage. Due to the disrepute of her name, she had to sell an apartment in New York at a reduced price. Due to her removal from the stage, she experienced severe mental and emotional suffering, which led to depression, stress, anxiety and emotional pain…
By the way, this is not the first time Netrebko has sued the opera in New York. In March of this year, an arbitrator ordered the theater to pay the artist $200,000 for 13 canceled concerts. They did not take place due to the singer’s dissatisfaction with abandoning the “public support” of President Vladimir Putin.
At the same time, the singer continues to perform quite actively in Europe and Latin America. In June, Netrebko gave a concert at the Arena di Verona in Rome and recently sang on the stage of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Performances are planned at the Berlin State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, La Scala in Milan and the Paris Opera.
We wish Anna Netrebko good luck in the courtroom showdown. Another question is whether this will help to rehabilitate herself before the Russian audience after all that she said about the special operation, which she condemned.
However, Netrebko’s Russian-speaking subscribers have already expressed their attitude towards her showdown with the Metropolitan Opera: “Dear Anna, I am immensely proud of you! Bravo, bravo and bravo again!”, they write on social networks.
