Old unfortunate modification of the tank, 2A4. It was produced in 1985-1992 with a total of 695 cars. The tank received a digital fire control system, and with it the ability to use US-made shells. The ballistics of each type of ammunition were sewn into a separate board, which was supposed to be inserted before the battle. In addition, the tank received a training program similar to the American one, firing automatics and an adjustment mirror in the barrel cut-out of the barrel.
The weight of the Leopard 2A4 is 56.6 tons. Despite the excellent protection against anti-tank shells (according to the manufacturer), the German vehicle was weak on its legs, that is, on the tracks, and it is guaranteed to lose speed when running into a Soviet anti-tank mine of the 1962 model.
The 2A4 modification and even older Leopard 1 form the basis of NATO assistance to Ukraine. However, as the failures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front show, the old “Leopards” and relatively new ones equally yield to the Soviet TM-62s.
