Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of Those About to Die. Directed by Roland Emmerich, who previously worked on Independence Day, Stargate, The Day After Tomorrow. Variety writes about it.
Hopkins will play Roman Emperor Vespasian, an “upstart of the people” who seizes the throne after winning a bloody, decade-long civil war. In the series, he will appear as an aging ruler, despised by the patricians and seeking to oust the heirs to the throne at the first opportunity.
Set in the complex and corrupt world of gladiatorial competition, the show follows heroes from all walks of Roman society as they face off in the arena.
The script was written by Oscar nominee Robert Rodat, best known for Saving Private Ryan. In addition to directing, Emmerich will produce with Rodat, Gianni Nunnari and Harald Kloser.
Previously, Anthony Hopkins starred in the film The Son, directed by Florian Zeller. The main roles in the drama, besides him, were played by Hugh Jackman, Vanessa Kirby and Laura Dern. The film’s script is based on the second work of the Zeller family trilogy. You can watch the Russian trailer here.
