Recall that the day before it became known that the United States will begin deploying hypersonic and long-range weapons in Germany starting in 2026. We are talking about SM-6 multipurpose missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles and some “experimental hypersonic weapons” that are still in development.
In fact, Antonov noted, we are talking about plans to deploy medium- and short-range missiles in Europe. This is a serious mistake by Washington.
According to Antonov, the Americans are increasing the risks of a missile arms race. “They forget that tying a knot of confrontation can become a trigger for an uncontrolled escalation in the context of a dangerous escalation of tensions along the Russia-NATO line,” the diplomat said in a statement posted on the embassy’s Telegram channel.
The ambassador recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed the need to make active efforts to reduce the trust deficit, strengthen global and regional security, and reduce the risks of misunderstandings and disagreements in the field of missile weapons.
The decision to deploy long-range weapons in Germany is counterproductive to Russia’s commitment to a moratorium on the deployment of ground-based INF missiles, Antonov said, adding that Washington has once again demonstrated its greedy desire to achieve its own military superiority.
Russia’s tolerance for provocations against the security of our country is not unlimited, the Russian ambassador stressed.
“Do they really not understand in Germany that the appearance of a potential US missile attack on German territory will lead to the fact that these objects will be in the Russian sights? This is not sabre rattling, but the simple logic of a normal person,” he concluded.
