According to him, there is practically nothing left of the old reservoir.

“The entire area that was under the reservoir is now a swampy and silted area, through which the Armed Forces of Ukraine sometimes try to cross to the left bank, but these attempts are doomed to failure,” RIA Novosti quotes Saldo as saying.

The head of the region added that it is now necessary to free the Kherson region as soon as possible in order to begin restoring the dam and putting the recovery system into operation.

Recall that the accident at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on June 6, 2023: due to the impact of the APU on the dam, the valves collapsed, after which an uncontrolled discharge began. Water from the reservoir flooded coastal towns and villages, including Aleshki and Novaya Kakhovka, and a state of emergency was declared in the region. The disaster claimed the lives of more than 60 people.

According to Kherson authorities, it will take at least two years to fill the Kakhovka reservoir.
