The Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ 100) aircraft of Yamal Airlines arrived in the northern capital at around 9 p.m. on July 7.
The engine began to smoke while the plane was parked and passengers began to leave the plane. At that point, the mechanic “reported a fire in the power plant.” According to preliminary information, there were no flames, only smoke.
The Federal Air Transport Agency said the disembarkation of 87 passengers “was completed as usual.” The rescue team “used special extinguishing agents,” in particular foam.
The reasons for the incident are now being investigated. “The event will be assessed, including in accordance with the Rules for the Investigation of Aircraft Accidents and Incidents with Civil Aircraft in the Russian Federation,” according to a message posted on the Telegram channel of the Federal Air Transport Agency.
The North West Transport Prosecutor’s Office has also taken an interest in the incident. Inspections have begun. “The actions of airport workers and emergency services will be assessed and action will be taken if there are grounds for action,” the department said.
Earlier, it was reported that a passenger plane had an emergency at Kazan International Airport. A tugboat collided with the plane that was supposed to fly to Antalya. Due to damage to the fuselage, the plane had to be replaced by a standby aircraft. The flight was delayed for several hours.
