The Ford Focus II (2004-2010) was equipped with a 4F27E 4-speed automatic transmission. This box, developed in 1998, is reliable and easy to maintain. Its service life exceeds 250 thousand km, which is very impressive for an automatic transmission. The design is so well done that it can be repaired without removing it from the car. Typical problems begin after 150 thousand km: the valve body may need to be repaired and the solenoids replaced. With proper maintenance, including timely oil and filter changes, this automatic transmission will last a long time.

The Kia Sportage III (2010-2014) with a 2.0 engine was equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The mechanical part of this automatic transmission is very reliable and usually lasts the entire life of the vehicle. However, the electronic components can cause problems already with a mileage of up to 100 thousand km. The key to longevity is to periodically update the gearbox oil. With careful treatment and timely maintenance, an automatic transmission can last 150-170 thousand km before the first major repair.

Land Rover Freelander (1997-2006) is famous for its reliable gearboxes. With proper operation, automatic transmissions of this model can easily reach the manufacturer’s stated service life. However, aggressive driving, frequent towing and driving with insufficient oil should be avoided. Timely maintenance is the key to a long transmission life. The first signs of wear usually appear as rough shifting or oil leaks.
Mitsubishi Pajero (several generations) was equipped with several types of automatic transmissions, many of which are distinguished by excellent reliability. For example, a 4-speed Aisin AW03-72L, installed on early models before 1994, can last for several hundred thousand kilometers with proper maintenance. Later 5-speed V5A51 automatic transmissions are also very reliable, although their service life is usually limited to 200-250 thousand km.
As Antyufyev points out, the general signs of automatic transmission reliability in these models include simplicity of design, good cooling and the possibility of easy maintenance. The key to the longevity of any automatic transmission is regular oil changes, avoiding overheating and aggressive use.
“In summary, we can say that although there are no “eternal” automatic transmissions, some models are truly distinguished by their excellent reliability. With proper maintenance and operation, they can last the entire life of the car, which for many owners is synonymous with eternity,” concludes the specialist.
