The lack of agreement between the Spanish Banking Association (AEB) and the CCOO, UGT and FINE unions has led the latter to decide to maintain the 24-hour strike called in the banks for this Friday, according to sources close to the negotiations. informed EFE. The AEB and its associated banks do not accept the latest joint proposal from the unions, despite being in the context of the pre-agreements reached in Savings – the banks created by the old savings banks – and Credit Cooperatives – the rural savings banks.
In a bid for negotiation, the workers’ organizations have made a joint approach at the meeting held this Thursday, making it clear that it was a closure proposal prior to the strike tomorrow, Friday. In it, the unions mainly asked for a minimum consolidated increase of 13% in 3 years and one more day of vacation, to reach 25 per year.
However, the AEB has rejected this proposal and has maintained positions, in the opinion of the unions, “very far” from the benefits of the sector, the increase in remuneration of senior management and, above all, from what they demand and their workers deserve. For this reason, the three major banking unions are making a joint call for “massive” participation in this Friday’s strike by the staff of Banco Santander, BBVA, Sabadell, Bankinter, Deutsche Bank and the rest of the companies in the sector.
The objective of this strike is to send the respective companies the “resounding” message that they deserve an agreement “at least” on par with what has been signed in other areas of the financial sector, and an agreement that really means, “of effective and tangible way”, salary increases for the entire workforce. This Friday’s strike will coincide with the celebration of the general meeting of shareholders of Banco Santander.
