‘Barbie’ grosses over $500 million worldwide

Greta Gerwig’s new movie “Barbie” was a smash hit, grossing $528.6 million worldwide in less than a week since its release. Collider reports.

The tape received 291.4 million dollars outside the United States. “Barbie” became the movie distribution leader in almost every movie market. The film earned $40.2 million in the UK, $25.2 million in Brazil, $18.9 million in Australia, and $15.9 million in China.

In its second weekend in theaters, the film has already grossed more than $70 million at the box office. Barbie will surpass summer blockbusters like The Flash and Indiana Jones and Wheel of Fortune in its second week of release.

“Barbie deftly uses nostalgia as a powerful anchor for her rich satire that talks about the power, masculinity and toxicity of women in a highly entertaining and playful way. These themes helped increase repeat views,” Collider noted.

Despite the success of “Barbie” in the movies, sales of the doll of the same name are falling. Mattel’s gross profit declined 23% in the first six months of 2023.

Earlier, Irish actor Cillian Murphy, who starred in “Oppenheimer” and “Peaky Blinders,” said he wouldn’t mind playing Ken in the “Barbie” sequel. Read more at the link.
