Animator, director, producer and screenwriter Barney Mattinson has died at the age of 87. He is known for cartoons like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tarzan, and Mulan. The cause of death was not reported. He writes about it Term.
Mattinson joined the Walt Disney Studios while Walt Disney was still in charge. Barney has been the studio’s longest-serving employee.
Mattinson knew as a child that he wanted to work in the animation field: at the age of six he saw Pinocchio and “it became a dream to work in this business.” The artist recalled years later that from then on he painted every day.
The future animator, after graduating from high school, handed over the briefcase to the security guard, who, impressed, called the head of the personnel department. Six months later, Mattinson began work on Lady and the Tramp, which was released in 1955.
