The reason for the lawsuit was the attacks on police officers and firefighters with fireworks that occurred on New Year’s Eve in the German capital. In total, according to German media reports, 15 firefighters and 18 police officers were injured in Berlin last night. Similar incidents occurred in other cities across the country.
“We have seen fireworks being deliberately used as a weapon against people across the country,” said Stefan Wei, head of the Berlin police union. According to him, it is necessary to prohibit the sale of fireworks to anyone who has nothing to do with it in their profession.
For the past two years, the sale of fireworks in Germany has been banned due to the pandemic. This December the restrictions were lifted.
