Big money behind the wheel: drivers’ salaries in Russia increased by 60%

Date: October 13, 2024 Time: 06:43:11

MONEY FOR TURNER

According to the results of the first half of 2024, salaries have increased in all sectors of the economy. The growth affected almost all professions, and in some it exceeded 60% compared to the first half of last year. Among these lucky ones were drivers and promoters (direct sales of goods and services, for example, distribution of leaflets). Technical support specialists close the top three: they are offered salaries almost 1.5 times higher than a year ago. This is stated in a study by the job search portal hh.ru, presented by KP.

“The main reason for the increase in drivers’ salaries is the reduction in the number of migrants in this profession and the increase in the volume of transport due to changes in logistics from west to east,” Alexander Safonov, a professor at the Financial University of the Government of the Russian Federation, explained to KP.RU.

The wages of machine operators (turners, millers, grinders) have also increased; not so much in percentage terms, but in absolute terms, the working class is taking the lead.

“The increase in salaries of machine operators is explained by the initially low base, as well as by the needs of the military-industrial complex,” said Safonov. – The shortage of professionals in this area, associated with the low level of training in manual occupations in previous years, also played a role.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IS EXPOSING FINANCIALISTS

But there are also losers on the list: those who employers are no longer very interested in. They were offered lower salaries than a year ago. According to hh.ru, the biggest losers were copywriters, editors and proofreaders. Next come debt collection specialists, financial analysts, investment consultants…

“The reduction in salaries of financial specialists is due to the reduction in demand for them,” Safonov explained. – Firstly, this is a consequence of the introduction of automated client-bank systems, and secondly, the reduction in the population’s need for a number of services, such as the purchase of securities, insurance, loans…

According to experts, artificial intelligence has become the culprit behind the reduction in the salaries of editors, proofreaders and writers.

WILL PEOPLE WITH LOW PAYMENTS BE ADDED?

Unfortunately, wage growth will not last indefinitely.

“I think that next year, if salaries do grow, they will not do so at the same pace as this and the last few years,” Safonov predicts. – For highly paid specialists, we will see stabilization, and for those who receive low salaries, growth will continue. This is due to the fact that it will be necessary to stop the outflow of people from low-paid areas that the economy needs.

According to the expert, demand and, consequently, salaries will continue to fall in those areas where humans can be replaced by artificial intelligence.

“Good software can now solve problems that were previously handled by financial analysts,” Safonov said. – For the same reason, the demand for lawyers, accountants and tax advisers may decrease.

Of course, we are talking about those tasks that can be described by algorithms and delegated to artificial intelligence. The best specialists capable of solving multifaceted and non-standard problems will still be valuable.
