Speaking in Sydney, Australia, Bill Gates said humanity has acted stupidly with the covid pandemic, the Daily Mail reports. To prepare for the next disaster, the entire world community needs to develop a clear action plan, as is done in the fight against fires and earthquakes. The looming threat may be caused by a man-made virus that has escaped from some laboratory and is even more infectious and deadly than the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
Political leaders must put aside their differences and work together, Gates said.
– Compare the economic costs of preparing for the next crisis with the cost of this crisis, which cost the economy 10 trillion dollars in losses, – said Bill Gates. – We act stupidly with the pandemic, not having tools and a unified action plan.
To be prepared to face the attack of a new virus, the billionaire suggested that countries hold joint exercises every five years and create an international group to record and evaluate the results of these exercises. In addition, Gates is willing to donate half of his fortune to ensure that healthcare, education systems and energy resources are available to everyone, including the poorest people on the planet.
“A person’s life can literally be saved for $1,000, and there aren’t many things in the world that can bring that much satisfaction,” said Bill Gates.
At the end of his speech, the creator of the largest technological empire criticized the United States for its policy towards China.
“I see the rise of China as a great victory for the world… The current mentality of the United States towards China is kind of a loser mentality,” he said.
