Björk presented the video for the song “Fossora”

Date: June 5, 2023 Time: 07:07:03

Icelandic singer Björk has unveiled the video for the title track “Fossora” from her album, the first major release in five years. Its premiere took place in October 2022.

In the video, Björk sings surrounded by Murmuri bass clarinetists, and DJ Kasimyn and a member of the dance duo Gabber Modus Operandi also appeared in the video. The background was a weird graphic with plants and spores.

The name of the song and the album is a feminitive of the word fossore (“excavator”, “digging”), which means “he who digs”. Björk explained that during the quarantine she felt that people were putting down roots due to staying in one place for a long time.

“Every album always starts with a feeling that I try to translate into sound. This time I felt like I was landing on the ground and putting my feet on it,” added the singer.

The album contains thirteen tracks, including “Mycelia”, “Victimhood”, “Frefall”, “Fungal City”, “Sorrowful Soil”, “Atopos”, “Ancestress”, and “Ovule”.

Björk previously released a video for the song “Sorrowful Soil”. The theme is a eulogy to the late mother of the singer. The song’s lyrics play against the backdrop of a raging volcano: this is Fagradalsfjall, which erupted for six months in 2021 and woke up again this August.
