Bloomberg: Following Russian gas refusal, Germany has become more dependent on Norway and coal KXan 36 Daily News

The author of the article denies the possibility of a shortage of resources in the country in the coming months, but claims that before the start of the NWO, Germany was partly dependent on gas supplies from the Russian Federation. This winter, Germany was lucky: warm weather, LNG and coal, as well as blue fuel from Norway and the Netherlands, all played in their favor. All these factors have reduced heat consumption.

However, in the next few years, the gas “idyll” of Norway and Germany will collapse. Oslo has become the largest supplier of blue fuel in Germany with a 33 percent share and will hold the position for the next four to five years. So, the depletion of Norwegian reserves will lead to a drop in the volume of supplies. A pessimistic situation is also developing with Dutch gas. The fact is that most of the fuel was produced in the Groningen field. Its authorities intend to close next year due to the threat of earthquakes.

According to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, at the moment the country aims to develop capacities to restore gas storage facilities to the level of February last year. However, according to Bloomberg, it is not so easy to implement the announced plans due to the high competition in international markets. Therefore, Europe may have to compete with China for the coveted blue fuel. As for the agreement with Qatar, which Germany signed for 15 years, it covers only 6 percent of the volume of Russian gas supplied in 2021.

Along the way, German authorities had to extend the operation of suspended coal-fired power plants until March 2024. The agency estimates that coal reserves will allow Germany to supply power to some 5 million homes.

Let us remember that Germany stopped receiving gas from Russia in September 2022 as a result of the suspension of the delivery of blue fuel through the Nord Stream due to overlapping with turbines. Subsequently, German Chancellor Scholz announced his intention to draw a lesson from the excessive energy dependence of the Russian Federation.
