The last few years have been confidently talking about the ubiquity and relevance of gemstones, regardless of the presence or absence of a special occasion. We more than agree with the general mood and are not in the slightest against breaking the rules, and therefore urge you to learn (if not already) how to dress fancy every day. Emerald is believed to be beryl crystals of various shades of green, often deep and rich. Cleopatra loved jewelry with this precious and fragile stone: during the reign of the queen, it was mined on a large scale. In the second half of the 16th century, a Colombian emerald entered the market. From jewelers, it received the highest praise for a cheerful grassy color, sometimes turning blue. It now represents the largest part of the mined stones in the world. Emerald deposits were also found in India, South Africa, and the Urals.
Along with diamond and ruby, emerald is included in the list of the most expensive minerals. It symbolizes hope, love, growth, awakening and prosperity, and also goes well with white and yellow gold. Glowing with happiness in the literal and figurative sense of this expression, the queen of Hollywood and three-time Oscar winner Elizabeth Taylor. The collection of her jewelry with her emeralds can be safely called the most voluminous and impressive. Judge for yourself: at Christie’s auction in 2011, all items sold for a total of 115,932,000 US dollars, and the price of individual jewels was more than 50 times higher than expected.
Taylor received her first emerald from her husband, Richard Burton, in the form of a diamond brooch. The couple married in 1964 in Montreal. Costume designer Irene Sharaff was responsible for the actress’s wedding dress (it was she who worked on the image of Taylor in Cleopatra). That day she pinned a Bvlgari brooch to the neck of a flirty yellow chiffon dress, hyacinths and lilies of the valley bloomed in her hair, and after Burton joked that the brand is the only Italian word Elizabeth knows. Later, this collection of emeralds was supplemented by other jewelry – the actress managed to put together a demi-parure, which Taylor then willingly incorporated into most images.

Oscar 2009 was remembered, among other things, for the appearance of Angelina Jolie: combined with a black bustier dress by Elie Saab with draping, there were earrings by Lorraine Schwartz with the same Colombian emerald. In a similar look (also black, also draped, but already Armani Prive) Julia Roberts appeared at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. That evening, the actress’s neckline was adorned with a heavy Chopard pendant set with a green gemstone. 52 carats. In 2006, Monica Bellucci managed to subdue reptiles and bring emeralds to life in more everyday conditions. The actress stepped onto the Cannes carpet in a white shirt, the legendary Cartier necklace dangling from her neck. The decoration in the shape of two crocodiles of 1,023 yellow diamonds, 1,060 emeralds and two rubies was made by the jewelery house especially for María Félix in 1975.
