Check of 200 euros: will the aid approved by the Treasury have to be declared?

Date: April 16, 2024 Time: 11:41:55

February 15 will be the next day that you can request the new 200-euro check to buy food, promoted by the Government of Spain to compensate for the high inflation rate of food when making purchases in the Supermarket. However, it is important to know that, as is the case with those people who have been granted the Minimum Vital Income, the beneficiaries of the 200-euro aid must present the Income Statement corresponding to the year 2023, regardless of your income.

However, it should be noted that the check for 200 euros is exempt income and the vast majority of recipients will not have to include it in their Income statement, although, as mentioned above, they will have to present the payment for this aid to the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT), regardless of the amount of their income.

In any case, among the general requirements for the Public Treasury to approve this direct aid, in a single payment, are natural persons who have received full income of less than 27,000 euros per year and have assets of less than 75,000 euros. However, the habitual residence is excluded from the computation of the patrimony.

Is the aid of 200 euros exempt from tax?

The answer to this question is a resounding yes, you will be exempt from taxing in the next Income statement, that is, the one that belongs to the year 2023 and that will be held between April and June 2024, although it will not have to be returned to the Tax agency. This is detailed in section 10 of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies, in the Regulations and in the regulations governing each of them. In summary, if you are a beneficiary of the 200-euro check, you are exempt from taxing the aid, although you do have to present the Income statement.

Pensioners and beneficiaries of the IMV: outside the €200 check

Despite the fact that the people who receive the Minimum Vital Income are an economically vulnerable group, the grant of 200 euros will not be accepted. Nor can pensioners ask for it. The head of Finance and Public Function, María Jesús Montero, explained that in both cases there is an increase of 15%, for the IMV and non-contributory pensions, as well as 8.5% for contributory ones. This is reflected in Royal Decree-Law 20/2022, of December 27. However, it is expected that the aid of 200 euros can reach a total of 4.2 million citizens.

The purpose of this check, which will be paid by bank transfer, is to deal with the high rate of inflation that plagues the pockets of millions of people in Spain and that is reflected when making purchases in the supermarket. Another of the anti-crisis measures that were changed by the Council of Ministers has to do with the VAT reduction on basic foods, which will go from being taxed from 4% to 0% over the next six months. This group is made up of breads, flours, eggs, greens, vegetables, legumes, tubers and cereals.
