The most important thing is not to replace the main meals with berries and fruits.
In the summer, many parents almost force their children to eat strawberries, cherries, apricots, they say, eat vitamins directly from the bush, stock up for future use. But is this the right tactic?
– The most important thing is not to replace the main meals with berries and fruits, – says the doctor from the pediatric department of the Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital of the Russian National Research Medical University. NI Pirogov of the Russian Ministry of Health Lusine Avakyan. All food groups must be present in the child’s diet. And a baby older than three years can and should eat an additional 200 grams of berries and fruits every day. But you can not “eat” vitamins in reserve. But she can prepare them, for example, freeze – most frozen berries and fruits are only slightly inferior in nutritional value to fresh ones.
– Can an “overdose” of natural vitamins occur if you eat too much?
– This is purely physically impossible: all berries and fruits contain not only vitamins, but also fiber, dietary fiber, which, if used in excess, causes flatulence and diarrhea, – explains the doctor. – Also, it should be remembered that acquaintance with any new product (especially with exotic fruits) should begin with a small amount. For example, one or two berries are enough for the first time.
Do not forget about pseudo-allergic reactions caused by increased histamine production, when the child simply eats too much of something, including berries or fruits. A true allergy to them is extremely rare, but people with plant pollen allergies may experience cross-reactions with food. And then it will turn into a real allergy, the manifestation of which will not depend on the amount eaten. The allergy manifests itself within a few minutes, maximum two hours after consuming the product.
