The reference point for the new collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri was the 1950s. But not the glamorous 1950s according to Hollywood clichés, but very mundane. “The reality in France and Italy was the moment of existentialism. Europe was poor”, comments the designer about the collection, drawing a parallel with today. Chiuri had three women in mind: Edith Piaf, a client of Juliette Greco’s house, and Catherine Dior, Christian Dior’s sister, who was a member of the Resistance and ended up in a concentration camp. The collection includes white shirts tucked into fitted skirts, checked suits, light dresses, simple combinations with a print based on the map of Paris and romantic coats that, according to the author, should give hope. The final run went to “Non Je Ne Regrette Rien” and it all looked especially dramatic against the backdrop of huge charms and charms made by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos.
