Director Sergei Ursulyak said that Chulpan Khamatova was not removed from the film “The Righteous”

So the other day it became known that Dmitry Nazarov was fired not only from the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov for sensational songs and interviews, but also deprived of the main role in the remake of “12 chairs”, where he was supposed to play Kisa Vorobyaninov and Dmitry Nagiyev-Ostap Bender.
Chulpan Khamatova, who for many years was one of the most sought-after actresses in Russia, left the country in the early days of the SVO and settled in Latvia, got a job in a local theater. Meanwhile, in the homeland, the artist had several unfinished film projects. One of them: the movie “The Common Man” was supposed to be released last year, however, at the last moment it was pulled from the rental and is now shown only at film festivals.
Another, much bigger project, the military drama “The Righteous,” will begin in theaters in the coming weeks on February 16. In 2021, a picture was filmed about the feat of a Red Army officer who saved more than 200 Jews during the Great Patriotic War. Then the media wrote among themselves about the participation of Chulpan Khamatova – she has one of the main roles in the story. However, neither in the trailer nor in the announcements of the premiere, the artist did not appear. At the same time, they are actively discussing “The Righteous” on social networks: while some are dissatisfied with Khamatova’s participation in the tape, others, on the contrary, call for the actress not to be canceled.
If Khamatova was replaced in a military drama, the KP.RU website asked director Sergei Ursulyak bluntly.
– Sergey Vladimirovich, it turns out that this will be the first film with the participation of Chulpan Khamatova after her departure from Russia? Did you stay in the project?
Yes, she is in the movie. And?
– There was a precedent when the film did not reach the big screens. So did you manage to defend the entire cast?
– I did not defend anything. There were no questions about this.
– And why there is no face and name of Chulpan Khamatova in the trailer and advertisements?
– I don’t know about the trailer because I didn’t make it. But he does not play any role.
Meanwhile, famous artists played in The Righteous Man together with Chulpan Khamatova: Sergei Makovetsky, Fyodor Dobronravov, Konstantin Khabensky, Alexander Yatsenko … The film is based on real events and tells about the feat of Nikolai Kiselev, an officer. of the Red Army, which in 1942 saved 218 Soviet Jews, bringing women, old people and children from the fascist occupation to the front.
