CIA chief William Burns told Turkish colleagues about the danger posed to the United States by Ankara’s recent airstrikes in northern Syria.
According to the portal, Burns spoke with the head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization, Hakan Fidan. In a telephone conversation, Burns made it clear that recent Turkish strikes put American troops in danger and urged them to refrain from a ground operation.
Early in the month, it was reported that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will discuss with members of his cabinet the possibility of a military operation into northern Syria and Iraq.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the start of Operation Claw-Sword on November 20. Kantar claimed it was involved in the terrorist attack in Istanbul, which occurred on November 13.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to discuss the operations in Syria and Iraq with the U.N. Security Council on Wednesday.
