Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for Oppenheimer. It was shot by the famous British director Christopher Nolan, who worked on the films Inception, The Prestige and Interstellar. The premiere is scheduled for July 21, 2023.
In the video, theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer reflects on the creation of a nuclear bomb as part of the Manhattan Project during World War II. “I don’t know if we can be trusted with those kinds of weapons, but we don’t have a choice,” he says.
The film is based on the 2006 Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. It tells the story of an American physicist who spearheaded the first development of nuclear weapons.
Oppenheimer’s role was played by Cillian Murphy, his wife Kitty was played by Emily Blunt. The film also starred Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr., Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane Dehaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, and others.
