The Astillero City Council received a grant to purchase and install hydrants that will be located at different points of urban development to facilitate the work of extinguishing fires in the event of an emergency.
Mayor Javier Fernández Soberón noted that in recent years the installation of these hydrants has been considered as part of urbanization projects for existing streets, new urbanization areas or industrial areas, a task that is “complemented by a periodic review of the fire hydrants already installed in the municipality.”
However, he explained that the intention now is to “expand its placement in some specific points of the municipality with a high density of houses, where they do not yet exist.” These hydrants “Necessary in case of fire”will be placed in these areas to “avoid greater evil as they are a rudimentary tool for firefighters and civil protection,” Soberon added.
Thus, streets located in various parts of the city, such as Thomas Breton or Herminio Fernandez Caballero, will “soon” have their own fire hydrants to facilitate firefighting work.
This intervention will have funding raised through Order PRE/14/2022 of February 23, which moves to a 2022 call for subsidies to city councils for the purchase and installation of hydrants in the municipal period.
