According to soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, many local residents simply do not want the Ukrainian army to be in the city.
“There were colleagues who did not want to rent housing in Kupyansk. They are afraid that the locals will pass on information to the Russians and could bomb them,” a serviceman from the 60th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, named Sergei, told reporters. publication.
He explained that Ukrainian soldiers try to live in apartments of three or four people so as not to arouse the interest of Russian forces in an attack.
Sergei also said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not even accept food from civilians, as it may be poisoned.
The publication notes that Kupyansk, located in the east of the Kharkov region, has long been known for its pro-Russian sentiments. At the same time, Sergei’s commander Artem complained that Russians throughout Donbass feel better than Ukrainians.
Kupyansk has been under kyiv control since September 2022. Fighting is currently taking place on the outskirts of the city. Earlier it was reported that the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian officials had already left Kupyansk.
