The executive president of Damm Demetrio Carceller to the summer season. The company has closed its 2022 financial year today with the celebration of the General Shareholders’ Meeting, in which the figures of a business that reached the main turnover of 1,876 million euros were presented.
The growth in sales in all distribution channels and the drive for international business allowed Damm to increase its turnover by 26% to reach a record turnover figure and obtain a net profit of 101.5 million euros. Along the same lines, it closed 2022 with 5,577 employees, 9.35% more than the previous year.
With regard to the General Meeting, held at the Former Estrella Damm Factory in Barcelona, the shareholders obtained their approval of the results of a year affected by inflation and its consequences on consumption and monetary policy. According to Demetrio Carceller, executive president, these factors forced them to “work hard to manage the general inflationary trend and its consequences on consumption and monetary policy”, although the year also presented “good news” such as the recovery of tourism and data of the hospitality sector.
This trend, in Carceller’s opinion, will continue this year 2023, who was optimistic despite the difficulties that the economy continues to experience globally. “The robustness and growth capacity that the hospitality sector is showing during the first months of the year and the good prospects of the tourism sector for the summer season, make us confident that 2023 will be a year of growth for Damm”, he remarked.
The consolidated brewery claims to be the brewery group with the “greatest growth in production market share, rising almost one percentage point compared to the previous year”, and achieving sales in the Horeca channel practically similar to those before the pandemic. Consumption in homes remained stable while sales in food establishments exceeded the records of 2020.
The group has highlighted the attraction and internal development of the best talent as one of its main challenges, which is why it has launched different initiatives with this objective and has pointed out that, in 2022, they increased the workforce with close to 500 people, 55 % of them under 30 years of age. It has also initiated various lines of work to optimize the phases of the supply chain with the aim of reducing the environmental footprint.
During the act, the new composition of the Board of Directors was also approved, which has gone from 8 to 7 members; Rudolf Louis Schweizer has joined as representative of the German company August Oetker KG —replacing August Oetker and Ernst F. Schröeder-—, and the 2022 dividend payment has been approved at the same level as the previous year.
