“During the analysis of the rubble of the reinforced concrete structures, the death toll increased to 89,” says the message posted on the Telegram channel of the Russian Defense Ministry. It should be noted that the deputy commander of the regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Bachurin, also died.
All the victims and the relatives of the victims have all the necessary assistance and support, the Ministry of Defense stressed.
Recall that on the night of January 1, the artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck a blow from the HIMARS MLRS at the point of temporary deployment of one of the Russian military units in the Makeyevka area. Two shells were intercepted by the air defense systems on duty, but four shells hit the building where the military was stationed. As a result, the roof of the building collapsed. 63 deaths were reported.
The launcher of the multiple launch rocket system, from which the Ukrainian Armed Forces fired at Makiivka, was destroyed by return fire.
The Defense Ministry added that a commission is working to investigate the circumstances of the incident, but it is obvious that the main cause of the tragedy was the massive use of mobile phones by staff. Necessary steps are being taken to prevent similar tragic incidents in the future. As a result of the investigation, the guilty officials will be held accountable, according to the report.
